Translating your work to impact society

At the heart of Ohio State are brilliant faculty, staff and students who are exploring cutting-edge innovation and fulfilling our land grant mission. Ohio State innovators are continually making groundbreaking discoveries in fields that impact the human condition.

Commercializing your discoveries not only impacts society, but the process can potentially provide valuable opportunities for your students and funding for your research.

Creating an invention is a significant accomplishment. Our team is here to actively engage with university inventors to help evaluate, protect and ultimately find the right market for intellectual property—through licensing or creating a startup company. We've created the Inventor's Guide to Technology Transfer to outline the life of a technology and help inventors know what to expect throughout the process.

Our technology commercialization team is the bridge between research and the market - we encourage you to contact us during your research activities to be aware of the options that will best support the commercial potential of your research. We can answer your questions related to marketability, funding sources, commercial partners, patenting and other protection methods, new business start-up considerations, university policies and procedures and much more.

The first step in this process is filing an invention disclosure. Learn more about this process in the Inventor’s section of our website: Invention Disclosure and Assessment.
